In order to prevent any dispute over how Thor's BYU Board operates, here are the official rules:
Board Operation:
- Each participant may enter only one prediction per week and may maintain only one identity on the board.
- No two participants may enter identical predictions on a given week (the site now prevents this).
- Once entered, a prediction may not be changed except in special circumstances (as was the case when John Beck did not play against Utah State). Changing a prediction is generally frowned upon, though, and must be done by contacting devin@devinhansen.com to make an official request with satisfactory justification.
- No participant may enter a prediction under the name of another participant without that participant's consent. In other words, don't mess around with other people's guesses, because I have to fix it in the database, and it will greatly annoy me.
- Predictions can be made for each game up until one minute before kickoff, at which time the entire site automatically updates to accept predictions for the next game.
Selecting the Weekly Winner
- The highly scientific method by which the weekly winner is determined goes like this: I take the predicted scores for BYU and for their opponent individually and compare them to the actual game score. The participant who picked the winning team with the closest overall prediction is the winner.
- In the event that no participants picked the correct team to win, the closest point margin will determine the winner.
- In the case of a tie in total point margin, the player who guessed closest to the winning team's score is pronounced the winner.
- In the case of a persistent tie (like both players maintain the same margin from the winner, i.e. -3 vs +3), I will come up with three trivia questions relating to that week's game, and the participant who answers the most correctly will be the weekly winner.
Selecting the Season Winner
- At the end of the season, the player with the most weekly wins will get an additional prize.
- In the case of a tie, the player who guessed BYU's total season wins and/or the MWC champ most accurately will be the season winner.
- In the case of a persistent tie, we will go to the trivia solution again.
Prizes
- The prizes are awarded randomly each week by the drawing of a number correlating to a prize.
- The prizes are all amazing in their own right, and I paid good money for them at the dollar store, so don't whine if you don't like what you get.
- Anyone who guesses the score exactly for a game will recieve a Vending Machine Item of Choice (not to exceed 50 cents) in addition to their random dollar store prize.
